Communications Technician I

Pay: $19.00-$24.00 per hour

Position Summary:

The Technician I is responsible for the safe and careful installation of company products at client sites.  Possess a blend of technical and mechanical expertise to ensure that all installs are completed to the manufacturers’ and clients’ specifications.  Performs duties with oversight from supervisor or with some assistance.  Must be able to meet deadlines, be hard working, and be adaptable to different working environments, including extreme weather environments. 

Job Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license with good MVR required.
  • Must be of sound physical health due to the rigors of the work.
  • Drug and alcohol screen prior to job offer and randomly during employment.
  • Most work is outside, on client premises.
  • Travel for remote projects, typically not more than 10 days at a time.
  • Must be a quick learner, follow instructions, and team well with others.
  • Able to speak, write, and read the English language.
  • Demonstrated computer skills, especially with Microsoft Excel.
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience, familiar with hand tools, power tools, and similar.
  • Working hours are typically daytime but can vary as IES and clients operate 24 / 7 / 365.


Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Comply with all safety work procedures.
  • Prepare, install, and provide service maintenance on all company products at client sites, which may include radios, antennas, cables, antenna support structures, lightning protection equipment, grounding, switches, routers, various other networking equipment, various other automation equipment, and similar equipment, and other communication duties with supervision.
  • Capable of assembling coax and CAT5/6 with some assistance.
  • Capable of programming radios and similar with supervision oversight.
  • Capable of performing some basic router programming with assistance or supervision oversight.
  • Capable of aligning radio links with oversight.
  • Keep accurate records of all hours logged, inventory parts used, and services performed.
  • Input inventory records into computer to maintain organized data base and records archive.
  • Efficiently follow orders from company or client supervisors.
  • Inspect received goods, making note of any damages and discrepancies, and immediately report the same.
  • Maintain the proper labeling, tagging, storage, and packaging of materials.
  • Maintain professional behavior and proper communication with internal and external contacts, including company employees, customers, and outside vendors.
  • Properly utilize and care for and secure all company tools, supplies, and vehicles.
  • Comply with all corporate policies and OSHA rules while carrying out all work processes.
  • Perform wiring of components.


Other Job Functions:

  • Daily completion of timecard.
  • Complies with all applicable Company, Client, and regulatory safety requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Preferred:

  • Experienced with Category 5 and 6 cabling.
  • Experienced with coax cabling.
  • Familiar with IP addresses, subnet masks, gateways, and similar IT/OT concepts.
  • Tower climbing ability/training.
  • Safeland / OSHA 10 hour.
  • Previous experience in the oil and gas industry a plus.
  • Familiar with NEC Grounding or typical communications grounding practices.


Physical Demand & Work Environment:

  • Must be able to sit, stand, stoop and bend for extended periods of time.
  • Must have dexterity of hands, fingers and arms to reach, climb or balance and to operate power tools, controls and handle other specific tools or equipment.
  • Must have ability to climb ladders, scaffolding or be transported by lifts.
  • Must have the ability to drive/operate a vehicle in a safe manner.
  • Must be able to regularly lift and transport up to 50 pounds, as well as frequently lift and or transport moderately heavy equipment up to 70 pounds.
  • Must have the ability to move from place to place within the work environment.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively.
